Subject "Chess" in primary school at Astana Garden International School
Chess is not just a game, it is a training for the intellect. It develops the ability to prioritize, sense and manage time, maintain clarity of focus, and build multi-move strategies considering dozens of factors. These fundamental skills form the basis for lifelong learning, making thoughtful decisions, and achieving goals and they can be developed from childhood.
«It is not the one who thinks a lot who ends up in time trouble, but the one who thinks about the wrong things.»
Gennady Malkin
That is why, starting this year, chess is included not only in the club activities but also in the compulsory program of the AGIS primary school.

Chess as part of AGIS’s educational strategy
For those who want to go beyond the mandatory course, there is a chess club. Here, students deepen their understanding of strategy, analyze typical positions, and learn to build long-term game plans.
Once a week, students learn to analyze positions, calculate variations, and make decisions based on logic.
Understanding plans, assessing positions and knowing key structures are the foundation of any strategic thinking. These skills help students see the direction of their actions and understand the purpose behind each move.
